Behavioral Health in 2019.

Behavioral health has become a well known topic for both individuals and organizations. The idea is that somewhere between physical health, wellness and mental health there lies a whole world of understanding ourselves and the people around us from the lens of our behaviors. Very simply, how we behave is important to our total wellness. We’re not necessarily talking about manners here. When we think about behavioral health we need to think about the human animal. What types of things do we do all day? What drives us to do things? How do our thoughts and emotions tangle up into our actions? Are our habits helpful or self-destructive? How do behaviors impact our wellness and the people around us? As an individual you may have behaviors you want to get rid of (smoking, road rage, procrastinating ) or add (exercising, meditation, making time for family). Most people will eventually experience more complex behaviors like fighting with your loved ones or laying awake at night that you haven’t been able to fix on your own and don’t seem to have a simple solution. Behavioral health counseling services are a great place to start with any type of change or improvement. There are numerous styles and methods of counseling to address the almost infinite list of things that people want to work on, simple or complex. The more complex the behaviors (and all the tangled up thoughts and emotions) the more likely counseling is indicated. As an organization you may notice that there are behaviors showing up in your teams that you want to encourage; maybe there are behaviors you want to address or correct. Behavioral Health professionals can be an excellent asset in such a process: they act as an expert consultant on the behavioral stuff, while you are the expert on your team and industry. Collaboratively you can tailor initiatives, policies or workflows that improve the overall wellness and operation of your organization. There is also a rich opportunity to add training and education that meets the needs of your people. This can enhance both job performance and job satisfaction.
