Here’s my latest interview!
The Be Nice Interviews began after lots of coffee dates, phone calls and other great opportunities to talk with amazing first responders and public safety folks. I mostly have conversations about something related to behavioral health, but when you’re having a great conversation you end up talking about all kinds of stuff. I love being able to have these conversations and there is so much wisdom, innovation and genuine passion out there! I figured, why not record this stuff and share it?
Be Nice is a simple phrase. Like most simple things it has layers of meaning and interpretation. Chief Alan V. Brunacini (ret). from the Phoenix Fire Department put a little be-nice sticker on all of the department vehicles.
Customer service was his thing. As I got older and began working in behavioral health, he and I spent a lot of time together talking about people. What makes them happy, what problems they have, what leadership looks like, etc. Essentially we were breaking down the complexities of Be Nice.
Wether you are looking specifically at behavioral health issues like PTSD, suicide and compassion fatigue or you broaden the scope to leadership, community service and public policy, keeping be-nice as a guiding principle does amazing things for yourself and the people around you.
In every episode of the podcast, I interview an awesome Be Nice kind of person that is either a first responder or some kind of public safety industry expert about how they got into public safety, what they’re working on right now and what Be Nice means to them. Everything else is unscripted and unplugged. Expect humor and adult language.
I hope you enjoy these wonderful conversations and can take something valuable away after listening. Maybe a new perspective or some leadership tips, maybe a creative idea about a pilot program, maybe some funny history or just simply a re-charge on the art of Be Nice.
